N2 - The main aim of this thesis is to harness the complex interparticle interactions between magnetic cores in order to produce magnetic nanostructures with exceptional MRI contrast enhancement. This work also seeks to provide new insights on the relationships between these interactions and the resulting MRI behaviour, in order to guide future design of clinical MRI contrast agents.
