For the first time, Plonek and colleagues have reported systematically the CT appearances of a series of cases of wrapping. They illustrate the important finding that there are residual spaces between the aorta and the wrap. PEARS by contrast is intimately in contact with the aorta due to its personalised design and is fully incorporated due it construction from a porous mesh. A limitation of PEARS is that it is, of its nature, a planned and elective operation while wrapping can be undertaken during an emergency operation and can be used without prior planning as an intraoperative decision. date: 2016-07-12 date_type: published publisher: BIOMED CENTRAL LTD official_url: http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/s13019-016-0499-7 oa_status: green full_text_type: pub language: eng primo: open primo_central: open_green article_type_text: Editorial Material verified: verified_manual elements_id: 1141792 doi: 10.1186/s13019-016-0499-7 lyricists_name: Treasure, Tom lyricists_id: TTREA26 actors_name: Dewerpe, Marie actors_id: MDDEW97 actors_role: owner full_text_status: public publication: Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery volume: 11 article_number: 104 pages: 2 issn: 1749-8090 citation: Treasure, T; (2016) A 'compare and contrast' exercise: wrapping versus personalised external aortic root support (PEARS).
