Abstract

UK policing today is under the microscope. A spike in serious violence and falling detection rates in some parts of the country have brought political focus onto the resilience of a model of policing that has long been the envy of the world. Police leaders and politicians are asking straightforward questions about whether there are enough police focused on the most harmful crimes – but also more probing ones about whether policing has yet fully adapted to profound and continuing shifts in patterns of crime, society, policy and technology.UK policing today is under the microscope.
