Abstract
This essay reflects on the life and career of Craufurd Goodwin as told in his own words. Topics discussed include his decision to become a historian of economics, his descriptions of his research interests and what drew him to them, and his views on the discipline of the history of economics. Craufurd’s attitude toward his lived experience reveals degrees of investment and detachment analogous to his attitude toward the community of historians of economics.
