Abstract

VoxelChair v1.0 exhibited Under the curation of Marie-Ange Brayer and Olivier Zeitoun, the Centre Pompidou showcased the emergence of new digital artefacts in contemporary creation. The design objects in the pavilion explore new forms with innovative creation processes such as 3D printing and new materials. These works question the formal changes occurring in design in the digital era. The centre Pompidou created a small “cabinet” of industrial prospects in the pavilion, with a presentation of new acquisitions from young and innovative European designers. This hanging was on display for one year. The glass pavilion, designed in 2012 by the British designer Ross Lovegrove, is a platform for the digital era, the result of leading-edge technologies applied to its undulating glass panels. At the frontier between dematerialised architecture and the digital environment, this pavilion of synesthetic experience transforms into a digital curiosity cabinet. It showcases the emergence of new digital artefacts in contemporary creation and the design objects in the pavilion explore new forms with innovative creation processes such as 3D printing and new materials. These works question the formal changes occurring in design in the digital era. Here, the fluid and organic shapes all stem from algorithmic calculations and each work is the result of a novel approach to digital design and manufacturing.
