Abstract
Construction and architectural historians have thoroughly researched many aspects of the design and draughtsmanship, management, organisation, and construction of Wren’s St Paul’s, particularly in relation to some of the better-known craftsmen and draughtsmen. There is still emerging research, and plenty remains to be done on those and on the matters of contracting, finance, and supply chains. However, as Campbell notes, very little is known about those who worked on the ground on site, particularly the ‘unskilled’ labourers the Commissioners relied on throughout the 35-year main construction period.
