Abstract
This study proposes a translation of human occupation, specifically activities, into algorithmic rules that create and morph geometry. It culminates in the development of a computational design tool that generates architectural plans based on behavioural patterns. This modelling tool is offered as a plug-in for the visual programming software Grasshopper. A quantification of the rather qualitative data dealt with here, enables a novel interaction with the more scientifically defined systems of architectural creation. Particularly, a focus is drawn on the interplay between the shape of the furniture and the distribution of structural elements present in the same space. The tool is implemented on a school competition brief and results are compared with the winning architectural project. Scripting common constructors for previously heterogeneous elements gives rise to novel design configurations and further ground for communication.
