Abstract

A literature review of the socio-economic evidence on social mobility. Gives a brief overview of the measurement of social mobility, highlighting issues that relate to BIS policies. Summarises the key messages from the social mobility literature, to identify sources of contention. Assesses the effectiveness of select policies within each of the key areas of BIS policy responsibility.
