Abstract
Chapter 12 is about the climate policies that will need to be adopted if the world is to have any hope of meeting the Paris temperature targets. Many of these policies have already been introduced in the relevant demand sections in Chapter 9, but this chapter organises the policies according to various categories of instruments and other dimensions of policy: legislation and litigation; economic instruments; regulation; voluntary agreements; information; innovation instruments; circular economy policies; policy mixes; policy evaluation; and sub-national (city-level, local government and community) policy. There is also a section on human behaviour change, including personal carbon calculators and personal carbon trading, and another on the institutions for policy delivery. The chapter ends with the key policy timeline identified by the International Energy Agency (IEA) for decarbonisation to net-zero emissions globally, by 2050.
