Abstract
The unit cell dimensions of vanadium, NaCl and Au have beencollected to 11. 5 GPa and 1000 K by powder X-ray diffraction andare used to constrain a practical high-temperature EoS forbccvanadium. The resulting third-order Birch–Murnaghan EoS isdescribed with parametersKT0,300= 150.4 ± 6.2 GPa,K′T= 5.5 ± 1.0,α0= 4.8(6)·10−5,α1=−2.4(9)·10−8andδKTδT=−0.0446(7) GPa/K.The parameterα.K0,300is 616·10−5K−1GPa and reduces to zero atan estimated 60 GPa at RT. This EoS description is entirelyconsistent with the majority of X-ray, ultrasonic, shock wave andcalculated data-sets in thisp,Trange. These measurementsfacilitate the estimation ofin situtemperatures under highpressures when vanadium is used inside sample assemblies andare useful, when used withh-BN, to estimatep,Tover the fullrange ofh-BN stability.
