Abstract
This chapter investigates the difficult fifteenth century case known as The Carrier's Case. It suggests how the case reached the judges before carefully examining the reasoning to understand the outcome reached in the case. This reveals an underlying tension in the law of larceny between the idea of larceny and the Roman law concept of theft (furtum) which was problematic for English law until the Theft Act 1968.
